For over 50 years, Mitsubishi has remained at the forefront of the mini split industry thanks to their dedication to providing efficient, user-friendly comfort solutions. Part of Mitsubishi's hyper-heating product line, the MZ-FE18NA is a packaged single zone heat pump mini split system designed to bring high-efficiency zoned comfort to homes in frigid climates. The wall mounted indoor unit, MSZ-FE18NA, boasts a functional design, and operates at volumes as low as 32 dB. Thanks to the included mounting plate, it is easy to install on nearly any wall. The outdoor condenser uses some of the most advanced technology available to modulate temperature without the energy-wasting overshoots and short-cycling associated with simpler systems. With an included wireless remote controller, this system is the perfect combination of convenience and comfort for any application in a sub-freezing environment.
Product Features
Precision Temperature Control Technology
The MUZ-FE18NA outdoor condenser is equipped with inverter technology and an electronic linear expansion valve. By adjusting compressor speed and refrigerant flow, the output of the unit can be matched to the zone for precise temperature control and improved efficiency.
H2i Technology
Low or negative ambient temperatures don't bother the MUZ-FE18NA. It is rated for 100% heating capacity at 5 degrees F and 73% at -13 degrees F.
Advanced Filtration System
The MSZ-FE18NA uses two advanced filters to clean and deodorize the air that passes through it. The deodorizing filter utilizes a ceramic surface element and platinum nanoparticles to absorb any offending smells. The second filter is an enzyme-based anti-allergy filter that captures and destroys bacteria and particulates.
Hot-Start
Mitsubishi's hot start technology prevents cold drafts by delaying fan operation until the heat exchanger has warmed up.
Powerful Mode
The powerful setting on the MSZ-FE18NA makes it easy to get your zone to the perfect temperature quickly. When it is activated, the unit temporarily increases refrigerant flow and fan speed to provide quick comfort through rapid heating or cooling.
Econo Cool Mode
By slowly adjusting the cooling set point and swinging the horizontal vanes, the MSZ-FE18NA can improve the efficiency of cooling operations without compromising the comfort provided.
Dehumidification
When the indoor unit is run in dry mode, the coil's temperature stays just below the dew point of the return air, removing unwanted moisture. This improves your comfort and reduces the chance of mold growth and other property damage in the conditioned space.
Vane Control
Optimal air flow is easy to achieve with the MSZ-FE18NA thanks to two vane control options, standard and wide. These functions provide access to five different horizontal vane positions, six different vertical vane positions, two swing modes, a horizontal vane auto mode, and a vertical vane wide mode. Auto mode selects the best vane position based on operating mode and the swing modes cycle through all positions for maximum coverage. When wide mode is activated, fan speed increases beyond the current setting.

Reviews

1. First and foremost the service port connection on the low side line set is not 5/16 like I was told by EVERYONE including e comfort. BOTH of my units were 1/4 inch and I think this is a change hence the reason so many told me it would be 5/16. As a matter of fact if you get split system installation kits many of them come with 5/16 service port tools such as 4 in 1 valve core tools and the like. I used an appoin megaflow VCT and had to drive 4.5 hours round trip to exchange the 5/16x1/4x1/4 for a 1/4x1/4x1/4.
2. By all means make the connections for the control wire from the outside unit to the inside cassette before placing the cassette on the wall as access is very tight and you will need midget hands and a mirror to finish the job. My other unit had great access by simply pulling a front cover but not so with this one. You can simply make the connections on the inside cassette and then let the coil hang down while putting it up on the wall then run it to the outside unit. Route carefully if you get the kit because they are not generous with the wire cut length!!! More details in the kit review.
3. If you mount the outside compressor directly to a wall there is a decent chance that the reverberations through the wall may be louder then the actual unit itself. Standing next to it outside I can barely tell it is running however vibrations travel through my overbuilt shop really well and you can tell when the unit is ramping up and down. I will install my house units up off the ground to stay clear of debris, critters, snow etc but it will be on a platform separate of my house.
4. If you install the drain pan heater it is super easy but if you follow the instructions to a tee it will be more complicated. You DO NOT need to pull the control board housing and PC board cover etc to plug in the connector. You can easily, safely and with less possibility of damaging an adjoining wire or jerking something out of place route the drain pan wire through the channels and plug it into the clearly marked spot on the control board. You will just need to have a flashlight to look towards the rear of the control board to identify the spot (stamped in white letters on the board itself) and which side the clip is on to orient the connector. It will take about 15 minutes if you take your time.
5. If you order the install kit you can read my review on it for specific issues in dealing with it. I used the 25 foot lineset kit.
6. Not much control with the remote and the MHK1 controller will allow you to program similar to a traditional thermostat if needed. Look at the Amazon review SUB COMMENT SECTION under the MHK1 and there is a link to a great install layout including pictures.

Now the review on this awesome Mit: It is EXTREMELY quiet, both the inside and outside units. When I say quiet, I mean, there is no noise until you put your ears few inches. You hardly hear the fan, just the air flow that comes out. At time I need to feel the air to know that the inside unit is on. The temperature is so COLD that it reminds me of some 5 stars hotel AC. The air that comes out of the vent is as cold as the air in the freezer. Yes, it is that cold. It is so comfortable sleeping for the past few nights under FL July-August heat and humidity.
I have done all the research and determined that Mitsubishi is the best of the best. It is the Rolls-Royce, Apple - BMW - Ferrari quality. I can't believe we lived so long in the hottest room of the house for so long. Looking forward to save half of my power bill since, we now can turn off or way down our big power hungry 5 ton Trane AC for the entire house during the night when we sleep.
Highly recommend Mitsubishi. You really get what you pay for in terms of efficiency and quality. Much like an Apple iPhone vs. android phone. Mitsubishi is really the BEST.
Mine has never shut down due to cold weather.
