Generac Mobile Link™ Cellular 4G LTE Remote Monitoring System

Over all, I am pleased with this product and its performance thus far (installed 11/19/24). Installation is simple and easy if you know how to use a hand drill. Of note, however, is the installation guide (which is only available via a QR code found in the package). It is a pre-production manual and a bit difficult to follow. Read carefully keeping in mind how your generator is equipped and you should have no trouble. Also, the manual calls for a #16 drill bit in one paragraph and then a #3 drill bit in a later paragraph to be used for drilling the holes for the 3 mounting screws. Either drill bit will work, but the #16 will provide a more precise fit for the M4 mounting screws.

Easy to install & setup was a breeze. If I can do this anyone can. Would highly recommend to maintain connection with generator.

Purchased this Mobile Link Cellular system from electric generators direct and day of install 5-31 with Generac on the phone the support person said my unit was defective. It would never find a signal. The unit is in the open no obstruction to get cell signal. Standing next to the generator my Verizon cell phone gets 3-4 bars of signal so no reason why this should not do the same. Generac support said for me to get a service tech to come out diagnose the mobile link Verizon 4G LTE cellular device. The service tech came out and diagnosed it sent info to Generac. I contacted Generac about how soon the replacement will be sent and no one has a clue.

I purchased this Cellular kit so we would always know the status of unit when without power and internet. I even offered to buy another one and send the defective one back and get my money back but Generac said no it has to be warranty claim only.
Not a happy customer at all. In fact unit when installed ran 27 hours and had to replace crankshaft seal. So between major oil leak at crankshaft seal and now with a brand new Mobile Link cellular device right out of box defective shows quality is not what I thought.
If I could redo time should have went with Kohler or Briggs unit.

I think that the product needs to have a detailed installation page shipped with device. The device instructions do not mention that it is not necessary to hookup both cables. One is for old system and the other was for my newer system. The instructions need to have clear pictures.
Because of this lack of simple information I was forced to call tech support which number was not shown on documentation shipped with the device.

These products perform well.

Highly recommend this product over the trash wifi module. This device has worked flawlessly since installed. The device offers more functionality than the wifi module. No worries if your internet goes down.

Got this to replace my obsolete unit. Installation and configuration instructions were clear and easy to follow. Pricing is quite reasonable and the service is a great comfort.

December 6, 2021 This device attaches to your Generac Generator and transmits a few bits of information about the generator's activity and status via cellular phone network. Our 22kw generator was installed in 2017 and it had a remote monitoring system already attached, but that device uses the old "CDMA" wireless bandwidth which isn't going to be supported anywhere in the US by anybody beginning some time in 2022 thus rendering MobileLink inoperative(the Generac program that monitors your generator and sends data to your MobileLink App on your mobile phone) unless you replace it with this new model monitor.

This new device, Model 7169, runs off the Cellular 4G LTE cellular network. I hired an electrician to install it, but having watched him do it, I could have just as easily done it myself because it simply involved removing the old CDMA unit and replacing it with this 4G LTE unit, reattaching the 12V power source, and plugging the wiring harness into the generator exactly where the old unit came out. The instructions on how not to get electrocuted are included in the manual supplied with this new unit, and were quite clear, but if you're not at all handy, get your generator maintenance guy or an electrician to do it for you.

Once installed, you then call the Generac number included in the Remote Monitoring System manual in order to switch your already established account from the old CDMA monitoring unit to this new 4G LTE monitoring unit. That took about five minutes, all you need is the MDN number from the bottom of your old unit (get that before you throw it away) and the Serial Number from the bottom of your new unit -- before you call them. Although the new unit annual subscription is cheaper than the old CDMA unit's annual subscription, the price of this Cellular 4G LTE Remote Monitoring System hardware seems high for what it really is - which is a specialized very dumbed down cell phone that only transmits a few data points. Having said that, those data points are important ones to monitor (starting battery voltage, and whether the generator is running or not and for how long). I suspect a lot of people will wait until their current CDMA remote monitoring system stops working before making the switch to this new 4G LTE unit in 2022. Might as well beat the rush and order now, especially with supply chain glitches we're currently seeing.

Rated excellent for features (albeit limited) and quality, excellent for performance primarily because cell phone coverage in our area isn't great yet the device antenna is still able to get enough signal to send/receive, and "good" for value (rather than excellent) because at over $300 with tax and shipping, I could almost buy an iPhone that does a lot more than this, but hey, this unit is custom made for your Generac Generator and it works right out of the box (once you have your MobileLink online account set up properly).
