Great Idea Combining A Automatic Transfer Switch And Load Center
By John R.

Purchased 01/01/2020 |
Review Posted 01/24/2020
The Idea of putting the two together makes for a faster install for a electrician and for a homeowner can get a generator whenever they want. Makes sense wish more brands did this.

Lugs Broke Off
By David W.
Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Purchased 05/16/2017 |
Review Posted 06/07/2017
My electrician was installing the 3 power leads today and the entire top assembly broke off. This may be a one-off failure, but the time delay to get a replacement is delaying construction. I have a four year old version of this unit in another home and it has worked properly. Lugs breaking off is so fundamental I cannot recommend the Generac model 5440 transfer panel.

This is a rare occurrence and we would consider it to be a one-off issue. We apologize for any issues you experienced with this transfer switch.

Single Family Home Use
By Bill

Review Posted 02/16/2013
3500 SF home with gas furnace/ heat pump, gas water heater, electric wall oven. Installed 14kw unit (60 amp output) using natural gas and whole-house transfer switch. Generac equipment is quality stuff -- well designed and well made. Installation instructions are good, but not great. I'm a construction oriented electrical engineer, but some of the installation details were a bit vague. Luckily I hired an electrician who had installed several similar units before, so he knew the ropes.
If I had done the install without help, I would have had some questions and spent a good bit of extra time figuring things out -- for example, how/where do the electrical conduits tie to the gen cabinet? how and why to disconnect the ground bond in the transfer switch, where to connect the gas pressure meter, etc. The actual start-up and checkout instructions after installation were great.
The accessory skirt looks fine, but serves no real purpose that I can see -- about like fender skirts on old cars. The wireless remote monitor is very worthwhile and works well. Room for improvement, but definitely worthwhile.

Very comfortable
By Don H.

Review Posted 11/19/2012
Since installing the generator, approx. 6 weeks ago, we have had 2 power failures, one of which lasted over two hours. Our generator kicked on, automatically within seconds, and we were very comfortable with complete use of all appliances.
We were the only home on our street to have power,. Many of our neighbors are now interested in adding a generator to their home.

Product Questions
Answered by Ken, the eComfort Product Expert
If I purchase the Generac 14KW model 6247 and the Genready Load center 5449, Will I need to purchase any additional items for hook up? Will the battery charger connect to the 5449 center?

Does this have a 200 amp main breaker?
What kind of breakers does it use and if they are special to this device, where can they be purchased?
Also, can this be installed without adding the standby generator at this time and it work properly for normal electric service?
Thanks

Can you suggest a generator package that will work with the Model 5449 Panel? Looking for something around 8-12kW. Thanks!
