Goodman AVPTC29B14 Reviews & Ratings

Easy to configure unit.

This unit works in vertical or horizontal positions. I removed the horizontal drain pan, as directed by the manual, to optimize vertical air flow. It states it is not required but I want better air flow. The A coil in my 5 ton unit is massive but slides out easily. This is a well constructed unit.

Working Up to Expectations

I wanted to wait until I received my 1st utility bill since completing installation of this Goodman system before writing a review. I am quite pleased with its performance thus far. It has been warm here (Baton Rouge) since late May with temps from low 70s at night to mid-90s during the day. My energy bill was for 625 kilowatts over 31 days during these temps with thermostat set at 77 daytime and 75 at night, which was sufficiently comfortable considering the unit kept indoor humidity at 40-50%. My home is about 1,400 square feet.
I did have some delays to installation. One was damage to the handler that I didn’t notice when I picked it up at the trucking company freight dock. Despite warnings on the packaging not to stack anything on top, when I unpacked it from the shipping carton there was a significant dent in the top of the cabinet on the side where the electric supply is wired. It took me a few hours to carefully hammer and bend the sheet metal sufficiently plumb to allow for the removal and replacement of the access panel. It wasn’t worth the trouble to return the unit, but it was a pain to have to mess with. Then, when I removed the old condenser unit I noticed the soil was collapsing around the pad and discovered I had a busted sanitary sewer line. So, that took a while to fix before mounting the new Goodman condenser. And, I had to make adjustments in the attic to hang the new handler which is a little longer than the old Trane unit I had, and modify the flex duct. Got a pro (Kennedy Mechanical Services) to sweat the copper, connect the wiring, install the thermostat and bring the line pressures to specs, so it was good to go.
This Goodman heat pump and handler replaced a Trane 14i heat pump/handler system I had for a bit longer than 10 years and had to replace due to a leaky evaporator coil. The Goodman condenser unit runs very quietly. Hope I can get longer service from this Goodman.
