- SmartShift
- Goodman's SmartShift technology, combined with ambient and coil temperature sensors, gives this unit a quiet and effective defrost system. SmartShift also helps to prevent short-cycling, increasing the efficiency of defrost operation.
- Filter Drier
- A biflow filter drier is installed in the liquid line of this heat pump. It serves two important purposes: removing moisture and trapping impurities. This prevents freezing and blockages that can negatively impact the operation of the heat pump.
- Advanced Coil Design
- The condenser coil of this heat pump is designed with smaller aluminum fins and rifled copper tubing to maximize efficiency. The fins and rifling serve to increase surface area, allowing the heat transfer capabilities of the materials to shine.
- High-Efficiency Compressor
- This unit utilizes a high-efficiency scroll compressor to provide refrigerant flow. Scroll compressors are renowned for operating more smoothly and reliably than traditional compressors.
- Compressor Protection
- Goodman installed two layers of compressor protection in the GSZ16. A suction accumulator that collects excess liquid refrigerant and a crankcase heater to help maintain a compressor temperature that discourages oil migration.
- Quiet Comfort
- The louvered top and three-bladed condenser fan of the GSZ16 was designed to reduce noise levels without compromising performance. This model also has a high-capacity discharge muffler to curtail vibration noise.
- Secure Cabinet
- The cabinet of the GSZ16 is built to last. Galvanized steel construction, a durable powder paint finish, and a steel coil guard protect your equipment from wear and tear, increasing its longevity.
- ECM Motor
- The GSZ16 has an ECM motor that is cost and energy efficient and can reduce operating costs. They also are not prone to overheating.
- Extended Warranty
- Goodman offers a 10-year limited parts warranty when you register your product online within 60 days of installation. An unregistered product has the standard 5-year warranty. See warranty sheet under the "Manuals" tab for more information.

Purchased this because we needed a little more output for both heat and cooling than the existing 3 ton unit in operation on our house. I am impressed with how quiet this unit is. The old 3 ton was only 5 years old and a higher Seer rating but it was louder than this one. I also like the fact this 3.5 ton can run on a 30 amp circuit breaker. Most of the competition requires a larger circuit.
I have not had a chance to run it in cooling mode yet but I will give it a very positive review based on how it has performed as a heat pump.

Having retired from the HVAC industry after 35 years, it’s refreshing to be able to go on line and purchase products. I’m a firm believer of not taking away business from the local contractors and the price was more than what the wholesale house was charging. This is the second unit I’ve purchased, the first was for my own home and this one was a charity installation for someone on disability. She is tickled with the unit. It replaced a marginally operating unit that was 30 year old.

I had the product installed with no problems. Less than two years later the defrost board and sensor went bad and had to be replaced. Replacement parts were sent under warranty with no issues. The unit is again working with no problems.

The heat pump arrived undamaged with the accessories I ordered. The unit is quiet and cools the house well, I have run the heat once and it keeps up with demand. This is a replacement for a previous unit real improvement from 9 year old unit.

First, I can’t believe how fast the shipping was. It was in my driveway in just 4 days from the time of order. All the way from Illinois to California. My contractor installed it without any problems. The unit is so quiet, I had to go outside to make sure it was running. This replaced my old 5 ton Lennox which never worked properly from the getgo. It is so nice after suffering from no heat or cold for all these years to finally have a system that works. I couldn’t be happier.
