This is the replacement/updated version of the older HKR-20C that was in my 2007 Goodman furnace. There were a few changes so I had an electrician install this and within an hour I had my furnace running again. I looked at several online places and this was the least expensive as well as the quickest shipper. I am glad I ordered from eComfort.com!!!!

This 15kw Heat strip works

This heat strip kit is the correct addition to my 4 ton Goodman heat pump package unit to heat correctly in the winter. It did require a separate 60amp service installed next to the current electrical service. 15kw heat strips draw too much electricity to hook into the existing service that runs the heat pump. You will need a 60 amp breaker, a 60 amp disconnect box, Romex outdoor 6-2 or 6-3 gauge wire (depending on your home and local code.) I needed 75 feet but bought 125 feet roll. Also need an extra whip without the wire so you can run the wire from the disconnect to the unit and to the included two breakers. You can run a jumper from the 45amp includes breaker to the 25 amp included breaker.
Don’t forget to run the correct Wires to the thermostat. I had to go back and hook up the W2 wire to complete the install so the thermostat would trigger the heat strips. Having a compatible thermostat goes without saying.
Basics are that you should expect to spend an extra $250 in parts if you are handy and extra to pay a technician to install. I’m a certified HVAC tech so I did the install myself.
Don’t forget to run the correct Wires to the thermostat. I had to go back and hook up the W2 wire to complete the install so the thermostat would trigger the heat strips. Having a compatible thermostat goes without saying.

My only complaint is the burning smell for the first few weeks of use. I have only had it installed for about a month but it seems to be better now. Every time the defrost cycle would come on and the heat strip would kick in there was a burning smell.

I ordered this to replace the existing, worn out piece in my Goodman package unit. Installation took 10 minutes, wiring was straightforward. The instructions are totally useless. The device works great, like a new unit should.
The breaker that is supplied is not up to the quality of the original and it was difficult to squeeze the two feeder lines into the single contact.
