After receiving several sketchy proposals from "dealers" we elected to buy online from PED and install ourselves. HOA approval took awhile, but all went super slick & easy with Texas New Mexico Power, CenterPoint gas, master plumber, master electrician & League City inspectors. Got a top quality install for less bucks and much faster than dealer option. Full set of detailed install/owners documents provided by Kohler. Thanks Power Equipment Direct!

Finally after 4 years I decided to write a review on my generator. Living in the southeast of NC with strong spring storms causing power outages for hours and hurricane seasons that always pose a threat in the area. The system has been used a few times and worked flawlessly each time. The unit will run my 4 ton unit and a mini split without any hesitation. I strongly advised to get not just a licensed electrician but one who has experience installing generators. For example, someone I know had his brother in law that is licensed install his generator and after running into some final issues before start up the guy decided to call the guy that installed mine. I was told that if they would have tried to start the unit, there would have been an explosion. So please get someone who is familiar and has experience installing these systems.

I purchased the 20RCAL unit and it arrived on time with no issues. I installed the unit after watching some online videos and some coaching from a professional. I wasn't quite finished with the hurricane hit but had it going before the power came back. It's a great feeling to know the auto control is ready to take over and supply power. I gave high marks based on the documentation and the service I had from EG Direct.

After a freak storm knocked out our power for 4 days we had enough. Within a month came Beryl and we were prepared. Our 20RCAL ran 180hrs straight without skipping a beat. Totally worth the investment.

While I do not own this particular model, I have owned 3 Kohler generators and been nothing but pleased. I am planning on this model for my farm property. I have a liquid cooled 38 kw Kohler at my home that I purchased from Electric Generators Direct and it has worked flawlessly (see my review)! As to those who talk about rip off installers, I recommend you use Kohler’ Dealer Locator and also inform them of the sham install deal you were proposed (if they were a Kohler authorized dealer/servicer). I am sure that company will hear from Kohler directly. I had no problem with getting my generator installed for a reasonable charge by a local Platinum Kohler Dealer and also have a service contract with them for maintenance.
Kohler is a huge supplier of residential, commercial and industrial generators and their service network is huge. I live on the Gulf Coast and hurricanes and long outages are a reality our Kohler units have saved us from unimaginable misery. Like anything else, you get what you pay for and Kohler’s price point is actually competitive with other major manufacturers. You will not be disappointed with a Kohler! And no, I don’t work for Kohler nor paid by them!

I purchased the 20RCAL as a kit with the RTX transfer switch included. I really love the all-aluminum enclosure and the finish looks like it's of very high quality. I went with the Kohler over the other popular brand because several experts seemed to agree that the engine is a bit nicer with things like hydraulic lifters. It also appears that Kohler gensets do a better job of maintaining smooth power delivery during surge events like A/C units turning on. I really love this thing and it has started without hesitation each and every time it's asked to do so. My experience working with Electric Generators Direct was absolutely painless and delivery was surprisingly fast. Thanks for all the help!

Purchased and installed in October 2023. The generator was very well crated and arrived in perfect condition. I bought the concrete base and installed myself with help from a friend then had electrician wire it up and plumber run gas line. Very impressed with Kohker quality vs the generac models I also considered. We had a short power outage a few weeks after install and it started within seconds and kept us in power for a few hours until power came back on. Nice peacc of mind with winter/spring storms on horizon.
