Liberty 253 And Zoeller Check Valve
By Ronald K
Ohio
Purchased 04/21/2024 |
Review Posted 06/25/2024
After installing and watching performance of the Liberty 253 sump pump and Zoeller check valve, I feel that I made the right choice. It's as advertised. Quiet and powerful. A key selling point was the video tutorial on Sump Pumps Direct website I watched many times and found their how to instructions very helpful. But above and beyond was the email correspondence I had over several days with employee Billie. She answered all of my questions with great detail giving pro and con advice without getting bored with my sometimes repetitive questions. She had great customer skills . And this was important to me so that I didn't need to return anything.

Study What You Buy Before Placing An Order!

I have purchased sump pumps in the past from this company but this time I am disappointed what I received. This sump pump model has a untypical mounting procedure for the signal float that is a royal pain in the ass to set up. You basically need four hands to get this properly set, never seen anything like this and hope I never do again. Read the directions on this before you buy this pump and you’ll see what you are going to go through.
Next, the base of the pump is not open all the way around it’s circumference for the water to come into the pump housing. You now have a small center hole in the base surrounded with several more smaller holes for the water to come in. Gone is where the sides of the pump were open to allow water to enter. I can see this set-up getting clogged and gunked up versus the other style of pumps where the entire base is open. With the old style, you never had to worry about the screened opening getting clogged up, this new model is questionable at best.
I would suggest to stay away from this model and get one where the entire base is open for allowing water into the pump. Also check on how the set-up of the signal float is performed. Right now the pump does work, and it’s quiet. It’s just that I could never recommend this pump with only two things that are acceptable.

This is an excellent American-made pump. It is extremely quiet. I wish I wouldn't have gone with the tether switch as my sump pit isn't quite big enough. I made it work. My poor choice is not the fault of the seller. Quick shipping too!

Liberty Pump Customer Service Tech recommended Liberty 253 for our application (Pit is recessed in floor' Pit measures 19" in diameter and 24" deep; Washer drains into utility sink and then into pit; Outlet pipe measure 2" OD). Would 257 be as good or better choice for this application?
