Answer

Per the SJ10 manual:

The inlet of the SumpJet® is factory equipped with a SharkBite® push-type fitting. This fitting can be used with various approved 3/4-inch potable water tubing and pipe, such as PEX tubing (ASTM F876, CSA B137.5), copper pipe (ASTM B 88), or Copper Tube Size (CTS) CPVC pipe (ASTM D 2846, CSA B137.6). Follow the instructions below for connecting the municipal water line to the SharkBite®. For more details on using the SharkBite® go to www.cashacme.com.

I have 2 sump pumps in our basement and they are electric don't have any flooding problems just scared if a storm hit and knock out all power the pumps want work. So will a waterpowered or battery backup work which is better and will I have to replace my pumps with either one .

First questions first,

How high vertically & how far horizontally are you pumping?

What size basin do you have?

The water powered backup pumps do work. However, they do use a decent amount of water to operate. You should also check with your local municipality to make sure water powered backups are approved.

The battery backup systems are a much more popular pump. They will run off the battery when the power goes out.

Thank you for your interest in Sump Pumps Direct. The pumping capacity on the Liberty SJ10 Water Powered Backup Sump Pump really depends on your water pressure(PSI). Minimum required water pressure for this pump is 30PSI. At 30PSI, you will get approximately 990GPH @ a 10' head. If you water pressure is greater, your pumping capacity will also increase.

Which is better, a battery back-up system or a water back-up system?

Depending on the water table in your area and the potential for flooding you could go either way. If your water removal needs are below average, you could elect to go with a low GPH rated battery backup sump pump or water powered backup. Please note that water powered systems will only work with a minimum of 20-40 PSI. They will not work if you draw your water from a well. The typical water powered system would provide between 300-1000GPH of pumping capacity. If you're in a little higher water table that the flooding potential is a bit higher, you may want to consider a battery backup system rated at between 1000-2300GPH. If the flooding potential and water table are very high, you might look at the systems rated at 2400GPM and higher. You should also check with your local municipality to make sure that they are allowed as some municipalities have outlawed them as they do waste water in a sense.

Hi Jim, I'm looking at the Liberty built SJ10 pump to work as a backup as we have had issues with water in the basement in the past. After reading some of its literature, I noticed it needs a minimum of 20 PSI of municipal pressure to work. Is there a way to check for this before ordering this product? Also it's advertised as pumping 990 gph/10'. What does this mean? In your experience is this a well built pump or are there better out there as a back-up and for similar money? I have read a few negative reviews about the float switch being very cheap and flimsy and the spring loaded check valve not operating correctly. Also, there has been a review stating it doesn't remove enough water fast enough. I'd love to hear what you think!

You might try contacting a local licensed plumber or look at purchasing an inline pressure gauge to install at your spigot that would give you a good idea of your water pressure. The 990GPH/10' means that the Liberty model SJ10 will pump water up 10 feet at a rate of 990 gallons per hour or 16.5 gallons per minute (GPM). Liberty is one of the top manufacturers of pumps in the U.S. and their product is very well built and designed. While there may be better, more expensive systems out there, we currently offer only two water powered backup systems. This and the Bur-Cam model 300402.
