I am not an HVAC person, just a homeowner. I bought this to improve the efficiency of my older cast iron gas fired boiler. I installed it myself, and it was easy thanks to the clear instructions. I like that the display on the controller lets you see the outside temperature, the target boil temperature, and actual boil (water) temperature. This allows you to see just what it’s doing regarding changes based on outside temperature and heat load. So I can literally see that it’s doing what it is supposed to do.

Shipping was excellent! Got it in 2 days. Installed with Aquastat L8148E and 4 V8043 zone controllers. Easy install. Also bought Tekmar 003 relay for the circulator. Installed in less than an hour. Had to use a couple days now and works great. Temp went to 150F and shut the boiler off (call for heat was still on so the circulator kept pumping) and then kicked on again at 130F. Works like it should. Will play around with settings more at some point. But so far it's great! Would recommend in a second.

easy to install but not so easy to understand the workings of the unit. instructions were not very detailed. I have the unit installed and it appears it is working but it does not override my boiler thermostat so my boiler is still in charge.

Unit was straightforward to install. The installation and operating instructions were very comprehensive. My only surprise was that I needed to provide my own source of 24V power. which was not available on my boiler. I bought a Taco 24V transformer from my local HVAC parts house. After installation of the Takmar 256 I immediately noticed the elimination of the short cycling that I had previously experienced. The unit has only been in operation for a few days now so I don't have any experience with the changes in comfort level over a range of outside temperatures or the fuel savings that might result from this unit. Very satisified so far.

This device is much smaller than I thought. I had and existing setup with 3 zone and DHW. I was worried about 256 not having the DHW input to change the boiler temperature but the supplied doocumentation explained how to connect everythinng in many situations including mine. I had everything hooked up and working within an hour and I am happpy with the 256 operation. Works great as a temerature rest and thats what I wanted. Know you can see the outside temperature and the boiler temperature on the display. Overall this product is very good for the price .If you allready have zone control relays and a 24 V transformer than all you will need is some time tools and a little bit of control wire to connect everything together. Very good product and seems to be made of quality material. I hope I see some savings in fuel usage.
