Great pump but would buy this one and add external float switch and this pump with built on switch will be a problem as the switch will go bad way before the pump does. Ordered a backup to have at a later time with a backup float, switch

Quiet Pump, Poor Construction
By Phillip M

The pump is very quiet and does what it is supposed to. But it uses a plastic lower that will not tighten to stop side spray. At first I thought it was just loose from shipping so I pulled it out and tightened as much as i dare until the plastic slightly deformed. Nope, still sprayed out all side between the top and bottom. Ok, it's defective, ask for warranty. Never in my life have I bought something from a retailer and been told to go through the manufacturer for warranty. After a couple strongly worded emails SPD did send a replacement. This time I loosened the bottom to make sure it was seated properly before tightening. Same result, still sprays out the side. It works fine, but over time that high pressure water spraying out all sides will ruin that plastic bottom and render it useless. Would have expected full cast parts for the price.

I bought and installed this over 15 months ago as a second pump in a dual pump configuration. It runs smoothly and quietly. I've seen a case where it struggled to keep up with incoming water (to be fair, we had 5 inches of rain in a few hours, and the first pump stopped working due to a switch/float issue). I can't comment on durability just yet.

Awesome Units

Bought this new Zoeller to swap out the fully functional identical pump that has been in service for a decade. So the old unit is now on standby in the unlikely event that we experience a failure during an extreme weather event. We run two identical sumps at opposite ends of the cellar. Connecticut. We highly recommend electrostatic switches over float switches: float switches can be finicky things. In a high water season you will notice the pump activity on the electric bill.

Continuous Pump N53
By Richard E

I like the fact you have no float or pressure sensor. You just replace the pump. No decision on repairing a float or monitoring the float. The floatless pump is cheaper to replace.

High Quality & Performance
By Brian P

I have 2 of these pumps doing very different jobs. One has to keep up with the rain and move lots of water from a low spot out. In the last 3 years, it was only bested by one monsoon, but barely. I was worried until I realized that the street storm drains were under water too. I'm very happy with its performance!

I recommend a separate water level switch, so that this function can be replaced independently of the pump. Mechanical switches have lesser lifespans.

My other pump sits in a nasty combination of oil and water. It pumps this mess 10' up into an oil / water separator. It's moving the water just fine.

Workhorse
By Erik J
Florida
Review Posted 10/28/2022
This model N53 pump has been faithfully emptying the sump pit in my backyard in Florida for over five years now. I have it installed with LevelGuard Solid State Sump Pump Switch. The LevelGuard switch failed right at the time of its 5-yr warranty and I replaced. But this pump did not fail! During Hurricane Ian, this pump ran continuously overnight, at least 12 hours, and then cycled every 1-2 minutes for several days after. I purchased another one of this model N53 pump to store, just in case the first pump ever gives up. This thing is a workhorse that I could not live without!

Rock Solid

My previous setup had a Primary pump with integrated inline float switch. The pump cycled frequently due to the limited float travel causing abnormally high failure rates. I switched to the SPD-N53KIT which included Zoeller's N53 and a LevelGuard solid state pump switch. The result was that I now have longer cycle times allowing the pump to run longer and then rest more between cycles. It's been 1.5 years with this setup and I'm happy to not hear the pump cycle as frequently and to also have no failures. I definitely recommend this product.

Why does my Zoeller 53 pump make noise but not pump water out?

I just replaced my float for a Zoeller BN53-C...I noticed the wire on the float and the pump is brittle and deteriorating even when I strip the wire back 12 or more inches, is this common problem?. Can pump be rewired, and is there a rewire kit or do I need to buy a new pump? I want the same Zoeller pump but I do not need a new float as I just replaced the old float switch. Also, the new float is not kicking on, and my alarm is going off for high water. I followed the directions. Should I shorten its tether length? Currently it is at 4.5 inches from stack to float. I have a few more technical questions too can you contact me? Hope to hear from you TUESDAY 7/5. Phone:440-214-2047

My Zoller pump has a threaded female connector on the body. What am I expected to put between the pump body and the bottom clamp of this check valve?

I have a small catch basin aside my house with underground drain line that runs to the street. Drain line collapsed under sidewalk and with heave rain, catch basin backs up, overflows and I get water in my house. Thinking of putting this pump in the catch basin with a line out to pitched front lawn so when water reaches a certain level in backed up basin it will turn on and pump water out. Does that sound like a fit for this pump?

Is any maintenance required on the M53 pump? I see there are two white plugs on the pump and I'm wondering if oil needs to checked or added periodically or any other type of maintenance is needed.

I am torn between which Zoeller pump would be best for my application. My basement is 104' and currently takes in approximately 3" of water when there is a hard rain. The water is only on one side of the basement and never comes up on the other. Would you recommend a 1/3 hp or 1/2?
